Understanding Contouring.

The book for learning how to effectively use computer algorithms to produce contours. Includes how-tos, why-tos, and when-tos about seven of the most used contouring methods. A special section is included about geostatistics with more tips about kriging and how to interpret variograms.

Hand and computer contouring methods and techniques are covered. Includes summary of the most commonly used computer algorithms and advantages and disadvantages of each. Discusses how to make your computer contour map look like a hand-drawn map and keep out extraneous mythical contours. Also included is a complete section on variogram calculation (the first step in geostatistical evaluation) in 2 and 3 dimensions. This tutorial style section leads the user through the practical steps to calculating and interpreting variograms - the most crucial step in geostatistics. The guide is designed for earth scientists who want to learn how to use geostatistical techniques. Expected publication date: Summer 1996.

Price: $50 ($65 outside North America)

The Limitations of Popular Techniques for Preproduction Reserve Estimation in Mining

by Marvin Wade Barnes. Performances of computer methods for estimating reserves are tested to determine accuracy of techniques. Techniques used: proximal polygons, triangular, cubic splines, inverse distance, ordinary linear kriging.

Price: $15 ($20 outside North America).
